Helen Bernstein High School Garden Encourages Students to Dig in
Toyota of Hollywood and LA Car Guy are committed to giving back to communities throughout West Hollywood, Burbank, and beyond, and the sponsorship of the Helen Bernstein High School Garden is just one of our latest efforts. Part of the #GreenMySchool initiative, this student and community garden space was recently visited by Canadian actress Rachelle LeFevre, and it has helped establish the high school as a “Green Building” by the US Green Building Council.
EMA’s #GreenMySchool Program
The Helen Bernstein High School Garden is part of the Environmental Media Association (EMA) effort to bring gardens to schools throughout Los Angeles. In addition to helping develop more sustainable, locally sourced food production, the initiative is also helping to bring children in urban spaces into direct contact with their food in new and exciting ways. This hands-on learning experience helps children to:
- Learn interactively
- Understand where their food comes from
- Make healthier food choices
- Develop new skills and leadership capabilities
In addition to the Helen Bernstein High School Garden, the EMA has brought school gardens to 16 other elementary, middle, and high schools in Los Angeles.
US Green Building Council Encourages Schools to Go Green
In a recently released statement, the US Green Building Council encouraged schools to develop green practices, both for the benefit of the environment and their students:
“We’re calling on our colleagues within the education sector to read this National Action Plan, consider your role in educating for sustainability and join us to take action to ensure all students graduate empowered and enthusiastic about their future.”
